Dinosaur-Themed Invitations
Set the tone for your 3-rex birthday party with adorable dinosaur invitations. Here are some invite ideas, including the one I decided to go with:
- DIY Dinosaur Invites—If you’re looking to cut costs anywhere you can, start by DIYing the party invitation. This is also an excellent opportunity to include your little one in the party planning!!
- Dinosaur Egg Invites—Got any leftover plastic Easter eggs? Make them into dinosaur egg invitations! Just write the party details on a small card or piece of paper, place them inside plastic eggs, and deliver them to your guests.
- DIY Footprint Invitations—Cut out dinosaur footprints from construction paper or cardstock and write the party details on them. Deliver in person or through the mail.
- Printable Digital Invitations—Search Etsy for customizable dinosaur birthday party invitations. There are lots of options for invitations you can print at home and send out. I’m a big fan of utilizing Etsy for printable party décor (like I did for M’s first trip around the sun party and his two fast birthday party!), so this is the option I *typically* go with. But this time around I decided to do something a little different.
- Design Your Own Digital Invite (Or Use My Canva Template!)—If you have a creative spirit, go ahead and design your own dinosaur birthday party invitation! Get some free clipart or purchase a cheap option online. Send them out digitally to avoid using paper and make gather RSVPs a little bit easier.
I designed a few options to use for our 3-rex birthday party. Here’s how my digital dinosaur party invitations turned out:

Don’t forget to send out the invitations about 3-4 weeks before the party to give your guests plenty of notice!

Transform your home into a prehistoric jungle with simple and affordable dinosaur decorations for a picture-perfect 3-rex birthday party.

DINOSAUR BALLOON ARCH
A good balloon arch is the perfect touch to any party. It really makes everything look much more festive and exciting! With some effort and the right tools, anyone can make a DIY balloon arch. Buy a high-quality kit on Etsy (or from me!) and you’ll be able to put on together on your own to add to your dinosaur party decorations.
I’ll admit this isn’t my finest work, but when I did this backdrop I was 7.5 months pregnant so keep that in mind lol

JUNGLE-THEMED TABLE SETUP

Use a basic green table cloth from Dollar Tree as the base. Add greenery and leaves like these and scatter small plastic dinosaurs (I got mine at Dollar Tree) on top of the table. One of my favorite parts of the dino party décor was my little dinosaur party hats for my plastic dinosaurs. I cut small pieces of scrapbook paper into a cone shape, folded it into a party hat, and glued a puff ball on top.
I got these jungle safari hats for our little party guests to wear, too! I placed them at each chair on our jungle-themed dinosaur table.
DINOSAUR FOOTPRINT PATHWAY
Cut out large dinosaur footprints and tape them to the floor to create a fun dino trail leading to the party area. This can easily be a DIY dinosaur decoration that you can just print and cut on the computer, or even just use brown or green construction paper to make. The kids will love following the path into your little one’s 3-rex birthday party!
CARDBOARD BOX CAVE OR VOLCANO
Use a large cardboard box to create a cave for your little dinos to play in. I used a play tent that we already had and covered it with this brown paper to create a volcano. I used red, orange, and yellow streamers from Dollar Tree to give the appearance of lava. Put some camo netting like this on your cave or volcano to make it more realistic!

3-REX BIRTHDAY PARTY BANNER
Make, download, or buy a custom “Three-Rex Birthday” sign or banner to hang at your party. We hung this 3-Rex balloon banner to make a backdrop for our mini dessert table.

DIY DINOSAUR-THEMED SIGNS
Dinosaur Caution Signs—I created some simple caution signs in Canva, then glued them onto cardboard sticks or these pool noodles covered in this brown kraft paper.

Arrow Sign—To make a little dinosaur party welcome sign, I cut out pieces of cardboard and hot glued them together. Then, I outlined the signs with a black sharpie and wrote out the messages on them.

Dinosaur Party Food Ideas
If you couldn’t tell already, I like EVERYTHING to be on-theme for the parties I throw. This includes food, of course! Here’s some ideas to stay on-brand for your 3-Rex birthday party.
DINO NUGGETS & T-REX TENDERS
The most obvious choice, and always a kid-favorite! Serve with “lava sauce” (aka ketchup!) for dipping.
We got a Chik-fil-a nugget tray and labeled it “Carnivore Snacks”!

DINOSAUR EGGS
Serve grapes, munchkin donuts, or deviled eggs in a bowl labeled “Dino Eggs” for your guests.

HERBIVORE VEGGIE TRAY
I always include a veggie tray at parties to balance out the sweets. Our tray got a “Herbivore Snacks” food label.

DINO POPS
Fun cake pops are a weakness of mine. I CANNOT resist the cuteness! We got ours from this Etsy seller and they turned out great!

STEGOSAURUS SPIKES
We used Bugles as our Stegosaurus Spikes, but anything shaped like a triangle will do.

DINO BONES
Pretzels or chocolate covered pretzels (especially white chocolate covered pretzels) are perfect “Dino Bones” snacks for a dinosaur birthday party.

FEROCIOUS FRUITS
A fruit tray is another great party food staple. We labeled our “Ferocious Fruits” to keep the “three-rex” party theme going!
JURASSIC JUICE
Juice, soda, water, or whatever other beverages you offer are now called “Jurassic Juice”.

VOLCANIC BROWNIES
Because YUM! Make your own brownies or buy them at the store for an easy chocolatey party treat.

Fun Dinosaur Party Games & Activities
1. DINO DIG FOSSIL EXCAVATION
- Fill a sandbox or large bin with play sand or kinetic sand. We used a small blow up baby pool that we already had and we filled that with play sand.
- Hide small plastic dinosaurs or toy fossils.
- Give kids paintbrushes, spoons, or small shovels to excavate the dinos! All of these tools can be purchased cheaply at Dollar Tree, but you probably have some already that you can use for the party.

2. TRICERATOSS DIY DINOSAUR PARTY GAME

A large cardboard box, some pool noodles, and some colorful poster board can be used to make this “Triceratoss” activity. This was a crowd favorite at our 3-rex birthday party for adults and kids alike. It was actually harder to get the rings on the pool noodles than it looks!
3. FEED THE DINO 3-REX PARTY GAME

I used cardboard and poster board to create this “Feed the Dino” game. It’s simple to do and makes a fun little activity that fits perfectly with the 3-rex birthday party theme. We already had small bean bags at home, but you can also use balls or really any other thing to throw in the hole.

Let me know in the comments if you’d be interested in a complete tutorial for making the Triceratoss and Feed the Dino games! 🙂
4. ADOPT A DINOSAUR

Get some small plush dinosaurs like these and have your guests adopt a dinosaur! Kids can name their dinosaurs and claim them as their own.
I made a little name tag for each of the Dinos. It’s kind of like a little cute collar for them. The kids loved it!
5. DINOSAUR TABLE COLORING

I got this adhesive dinosaur coloring roll for our party tables as another activity for kids to do. Put out a little bucket of crayons and it’s a simple activity to add to the party!
6. T-REX SAYS (SIMON SAYS, DINO EDITION!)
Use fun dinosaur-themed commands like:
- “T-Rex says roar like a dinosaur!”
- “T-Rex says stomp your feet!”
- “T-Rex says chomp your arms like a hungry dino”
7. DINOSAUR EXPLORER DIY JEEP PHOTOBOOTH

To make this cute DIY Jeep photobooth, I basically just cut squares in a large flattened cardboard box, then glued paper on top of it to give the appearance of a jeep. I stabilized the photobooth with pool noodles glued to the sides on the back, but you can also use something like these cardboard easel stands on either side.
Dinosaur Party Favors
Send your guests home with cute and affordable dinosaur party favors:
- Dinosaur Masks or Hats—Let kids wear them during the party and take them home as a favor!
- Mini Dinosaur Toys—If you decide to do the “Adopt a Dinosaur” activity I mentioned earlier, have that be your party favor. Small dinosaur toys are also sold at Dollar Tree.
- Dinosaur Stickers & Coloring Pages—Print free coloring pages for kids to take home, or make your own mini coloring book. Dollar Tree has dinosaur stickers, as well, so add those in if you can!
Dinosaur-Themed Birthday Cake & Dessert Ideas

No 3-Rex party is complete without sweet treats and a dinosaur birthday cake! Here are a few easy ideas:
- Dino Dig Cake—Top a chocolate cake with crushed Oreos to look like dirt and some plastic dinosaurs.
- Volcano Cake—Make a round cake, shape it into a volcano, and drizzle red icing for “lava.”
- Simple Dinosaur Cupcakes—Add printable cupcake toppers or tiny plastic dinosaurs to fit the 3-Rex theme! I made our cupcake toppers on Canva with some clipart I bought.
- Dinosaur Cake Pops—Buy or make cake pops shaped like dinosaurs!
Final Tips for an Amazing Three-Rex Party
- Use what you have! In this post, you’ve probably noticed I used A LOT of cardboard. I also used some dinosaur toys that we already had as decorations. Things like brown packing paper can be used to make “vines,” too!
- Plan for indoor/outdoor fun. If the weather is nice, set up games and activities outside for extra space and for guests to get some fresh air. This is an especially good idea if you have a house that’s on the smaller side (like me!).
- Take lots of pictures! Your little one will love looking back on these memories, so make sure to snap some photos of your dinosaur birthday party in action!
Your little one’s dinosaur 3-Rex birthday party will be a day to remember! With a mix of easy decorations, fun games, and dino-themed snacks, you can create an impressive and adorable celebration right at home.
